Zoffany, Johann (1733-1810), a German-born English artist, painted many fine portraits and theatrical pictures, particularly of actor David Garrick. He also painted small domestic group portraits called conversation pieces that rank among his most praised works. In addition, Zoffany painted many works for the royal family during the reign of King George III and Queen Charlotte. These paintings include The Academicians of the Royal Academy (1772) and The Tribuna of the Uffizi (1772-1778).
