Wiese, VEE zuh, Kurt (1887-1974), an American artist and writer, illustrated more than 100 books. He began to draw while a World War I prisoner of the Japanese. He wrote and illustrated The Chinese Ink Stick (1929), Liang and Lo (1930), You Can Write Chinese (1945), and The Thief in the Attic (1965). His animal pictures for Felix Salten's Bambi (1932) were memorable. He was born in Minden, Germany.
