Wedgwood, Dame Veronica (1910-1997), an English historian and writer, became a leading authority on the 1600's, especially the people and events of the English Civil War. Her books on this period include Strafford (1935), Oliver Cromwell (1939), The King's Peace (1955), The King's War (1958), and The Trial of Charles I (1964). Among her other books are The Thirty Years' War (1938), William the Silent (1944), Seventeenth Century Literature (1950), Milton and His World (1969), and The Political Career of Rubens (1975).
