Visa, VEE zuh, is an endorsement that government officials place on a passport to show the passport is valid (see Passport). Officials of the country a traveler is entering grant the visa. The visa certifies that the traveler's passport has been examined and approved. Immigration officers then permit the bearer to enter the country. A government that does not want a person to enter the country can refuse to grant that person a visa.
