Trinity House is the lighthouse authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands, and Gibraltar. Its official name is The Corporation of Trinity House. Trinity House controls buoys; lighthouses; lightships, ships with bright lights anchored as a warning in dangerous places where a lighthouse cannot be built; and radio navigation systems. The corporation's business is controlled by Elder Brethren (experienced seamen). Trinity House also has power to inspect buoys, beacons, and other navigation guides maintained by other authorities.
