Treitschke, TRYCH kuh, Heinrich Gotthard von (1834-1896), a German historian and teacher, argued for German unity in his writings. He was a liberal in his youth, but later became a violent supporter of the movement to unify Germany under the conservative leadership of Prussia. Treitschke was a well-known lecturer, and taught at the universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, and Berlin. His greatest work was the five-volume History of Germany in the Nineteenth Century (1879-1894). He was born in Dresden.
