Smythe, Pat (1928-1996), established herself as one of the best horsewomen and show jumping riders in the United Kingdom. Smythe won almost every show jumping prize in the United Kingdom and the United States. She was a member of the British equestrian team that won the bronze medal in the 1956 Olympic Games. She also competed in team and individual equestrian events in the 1960 Olympics. In 1949, she was Show Jumper of the Year. In 1962, she won the Saddle of Honour at the Royal International Horse Show. Smythe was president of the British Show Jumping Association from 1983 to 1986 and was a member of the British show jumping team from 1947 to 1964.
