Seyss-Inquart, Arthur von, zys IHNG kvahrt, AHR toor fuhn (1892-1946), was the leading Austrian Nazi. As the adviser to the chancellor of Austria during the 1930's, Seyss-Inquart betrayed his country and helped the German dictator Adolf Hitler seize Austria. When Austria became German territory in 1938, Seyss-Inquart became its governor. He held a similar post in the Netherlands during World War II (1939-1945). After the war, he was tried in Nuremberg for his repressive policies and hanged on Oct. 16, 1946. He was born in Stannern, in Bohemia, on July 22, 1892.
