Saba (pop. 1,116) is one of the islands in the northern group of the Netherlands Antilles. It is the most westerly island in the northern group, lying west of St. Eustatius, its nearest neighbor. Saba is an extinct volcano rising 3,000 feet (915 meters) above the surface of the sea. It has an area of about 5 square miles (13 square kilometers). The climate is tropical, tempered by northeast trade winds.
