Rolls, Charles Stewart (1877-1910), was a cofounder of the British engineering and manufacturing firm of Rolls-Royce. In 1902, Rolls started a company to sell motorcars. In 1904, Rolls met Frederick Royce, the owner of the engineering firm Royce, Limited. Rolls was impressed with several motorcars Royce had designed. The two men merged their companies to form Rolls-Royce. Royce designed the Rolls-Royce automobiles, and Rolls sold them.
