Rockefeller, John Davison, III (1906-1978), served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Rockefeller Foundation from 1952 to 1971. Rockefeller founded the Population Council, a group that conducts research on population problems throughout the world. He also helped found the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and later became its chairman.
