Richmond, Indiana, the seat of Wayne County. The city is situated on the East Fork of the Whitewater River, 67 miles (108 km) east of Indianapolis. Richmond is a trade center for the surrounding farm region. Factories here produce transportation equipment, wire and cable, tools, and fabricated metal products. The growing of hothouse roses is an important industry. Earlham College and Indiana University East are here. Richmond was settled in 1806 by Quakers from Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
