Revere, Massachusetts, a residential city in Suffolk County, five miles (8 km) northeast of downtown Boston. Situated on Massachusetts Bay, Revere is a popular summer resort. The city has light industry. Revere was originally settled in 1627 as Rumney Marsh, and was part of Boston until 1738. It was later called Chelsea and then North Chelsea before being named for Paul Revere in 1871.
