Read, Norman (1931-1994), was a New Zealand athlete who gained fame as a race walker. In 1956, Read won the gold medal for the 50-kilometer road walk at the Olympic Games at Melbourne, Australia. Read's time was 4 hours 30 minutes 42 seconds. He won the event by more than 2 minutes.
