Putrajaya, POO trah JAH yah (pop. 7,223), is a new city being built to serve as the administrative capital of Malaysia. The city did not exist before the government planned and built it. Construction began in 1995. Besides government offices, Putrajaya features residential areas, botanical gardens, parks, and wetlands. It lies about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.
