Power, in arithmetic, is the product of a number multiplied by itself a specified number of times. For example, 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 is called the fifth power of 3 and is written 35. In 35, the number 3 is called the base and 5 is called the exponent. The second and third powers of a number are called its square and its cube (see Cube; Square).
