Newry and Mourne (pop. 87,058) is a local government district in southeastern Northern Ireland. The city of Newry lies near the Mourne Mountains. Newry's industries include textile production, meat processing and packing, and bacon curing. Quarries in the district produce granite. The most important crop is potatoes. Newry also has port facilities. Greencastle is the site of a castle built in 1261. Rostrevor grows Mediterranean plants.
