Newark, Ohio, the seat of Licking County. It is at the junction of three branches of the Licking River, 30 miles (50 km) east-northeast of Columbus. Factories here produce fiberglass, heavy machinery, and aluminum products. A U.S. Air Force missile laboratory is in the city.

An intricate system of earthworks was built here by early Indian Mound Builders. Newark was founded in 1802 and named for the New Jersey home of its founder. It became a city in 1813.
