Murrumbidgee River is the third largest river in Australia's Murray-Darling river system. The river is 981 miles (1,579 kilometers) long. The Murrumbidgee begins in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales. It flows northward past Canberra, then westward until it is joined by the Lachlan River, beyond Hay. The Murrumbidgee then flows in a general southwesterly direction and reaches the Murray River at the Victoria border.
