Monotype is a machine used to produce metal type for printing. The Monotype is noted for producing high-quality work. It has been used for printing fine books as well as catalogs, magazines, and other printed material. The Monotype has been replaced by photocomposition in most printing. Photocomposition is any of several methods of assembling images on photosensitive film or paper, or directly on a printing plate (see Photocomposition).
