Miami Beach, Florida, a resort city in Miami-Dade County. It lies on a string of islands in the Atlantic Ocean three miles (5 km) east of Miami. Causeways lead across Biscayne Bay to the mainland. Carl G. Fisher, a businessman, began developing the site as a resort in 1913. Miami Beach grew rapidly during the Florida real estate boom of the 1920's.
