Mayo, Daphne (1895-1982), an Australian sculptor, designed and made two bronze doors for the Mitchell Library in Sydney. She also designed the War Memorial at Kings School in Sydney. Mayo is noted for her many public sculptures in Brisbane. Her sandstone sculpture The Progress of Civilization (1929-1930) depicts early settlement in Australia. It stands above the entrance to the Brisbane city hall. She also created the sandstone World War I Memorial (1932) in Anzac Park in Brisbane. Mayo's bronze figures resemble the works of the French sculptor Aristide Maillol.
