Lonsdale, Lord (1857-1944), was a leading British sportsman. He established the Lonsdale Belts for boxing. The belts are awarded to the British titleholder in each weight category. Lonsdale's interest in sport also extended to hunting, flat racing, steeplechasing, coursing, dog racing, deerstalking, and yachting.
