Loeb, Jacques
Loeb, Jacques, LOHB, zhahk (1859-1924), an American physiologist, made important studies of the chemistry and physics underlying the activities of living organisms. He proved that eggs can be made to develop by artificial means. In his opinion, all aspects of life can be explained in terms of physical and chemical processes. His works include The Dynamics of Living Matter (1906), The Mechanistic Conception of Life (1912), and Regeneration (1924).
