Lockwood, Charles Andrews (1890-1967), was a vice-admiral in the United States Navy. He became an outstanding American submarine expert during World War II (1939-1945). He directed American underseas warfare in the Pacific. Between 1943 and 1945, forces he commanded sank more than 1,000 enemy ships and damaged at least 500 others, a major cause for the defeat of Japan.
