Lee, Tsung Dao (1926-...), shared the 1957 Nobel Prize in physics with Chen Ning Yang. They proposed that the "conservation of parity," a basic principle of nuclear physics, did not hold true in some cases (see Parity). Since 1979, Lee has worked to promote academic exchange between physicists of China and the United States. Lee was born on Nov. 25, 1926, in Shanghai, China. He was educated at Chinese universities and the University of Chicago, where he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1950.
