Lakatoi was a large sailing vessel used by the Motu people of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, for the annual trading trip. These voyages, known as hiri, took place at the end of the southeast trade season (October to December) and lasted between two and three months. Clay pots were exchanged for sago flour in coastal villages along the Gulf of Papua.
