Keepit Dam blocks the Namoi River west of the Dividing Range in Australia. It stands near Tamworth in northern New South Wales. This rock-fill gravity dam is 180 feet (55 meters) high from the lowest point in its general foundation to the crest. The crest is 1,750 feet (533 meters) long. The dam stores more 345,000 acre-feet (425 million cubic meters) of water. An acre-foot equals the volume of a square container that is 1 foot (0.3 meter) high and has a base of 1 acre (0.4 hectare) in area. The dam supplies a hydroelectric power plant. The plant, completed in 1960, provides local electric power. Keepit Dam controls the Namoi Valley's local water supplies.
