Hurley, Frank (1885-1962), an Australian still photographer and motion-picture cameraman, accompanied four expeditions to the Antarctic between 1911 and 1934. Critics consider his work on Antarctica to be outstanding. Hurley's motion pictures include In The Grip of Polar Ice (1920), which is based on his records of the 1914 expedition led by the Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton into the Weddell Sea, and A Nation Is Built (1938), which celebrated Australia's 150th anniversary.
