Hungerford, Thomas Arthur Guy (1915-...), an Australian author, wrote The Ridge and The River (1950). The book was Hungerford's first novel, and critics generally consider it the best Australian novel about World War II (1939-1945). It is a tense story set in the New Guinea campaign, in which Hungerford saw action with the Australian Army.
