Hubbard, Bernard Rosecrans (1888-1962), was a Jesuit priest, author, and Arctic explorer. For 17 years, he made annual trips to Alaska, where he studied Indians, Inuit, the sea and its products, and geology. His explorations won him the name of "the glacier priest." In World War II (1939-1945), he served as an adviser to military forces in Alaska. He became head of the geology department at Santa Clara University in 1926. Hubbard was born in San Francisco and was educated by the Jesuits.
