Harris, Reg (1920-1992), became the first Englishman to win the world professional sprint cycling championship. Harris became a professional cyclist in 1949 and won the world professional sprint championship in 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1954. He retired in 1957 but came out of retirement in 1974 to win his fifth world sprint championship. He retired again in 1975.
