Gurindji is the name of an Aboriginal tribe in the Northern Territory, Australia. Following European settlement of the region, the Gurindji became centered on Wave Hill station, a huge cattle property founded in 1883. The Gurindji men were employed as stockmen and general helpers, while the women assisted with domestic duties. During the 1960's, dissatisfaction with wages and working conditions led the Gurindji to establish a camp of their own on Wattie Creek. This land was granted to them in 1975.
