Greek literature is the oldest and most influential national literature in the Western world. Ancient Greek literature became the model for all later literature in the West, starting with Latin literature. Greek writers introduced many significant types of literature, including lyric and epic poetry, tragic and comic drama, philosophical essays and dialogues, critical and biographical history, and literary letters.
