Grand Pre, gran pray, is a historic village on Minas Basin in Nova Scotia. It was one of the largest communities in Acadia, a region in what is now eastern Canada and northern Maine that became the site of the first French colony in North America. French colonists settled in Acadia in 1604 and founded Grand Pre about 1680. The French developed Grand Pre into a successful agricultural district that exported goods to nearby French and English towns.
