Government Printing Office (GPO) is the largest multipurpose printing plant in the world. It prints and binds publications for the United States government, supplies paper and ink for government offices, and distributes publications for them. The central mission of the GPO is to provide the general public with access to government information. The GPO sells copies of government publications and makes a variety of materials available in libraries and on the Internet. An official called the public printer directs the GPO. A deputy public printer supervises sales.
