Glidden, Carlos (1834-1877), an American inventor, is best known for his share in the invention of the Remington typewriter. He met his co-inventors, Christopher Latham Sholes and Samuel W. Soule, while in Milwaukee, where he was working on the development of a spading machine for agricultural use. Glidden suggested that the three of them work together to produce a typewriting machine. They patented the typewriter in 1868. In 1873, the rights to the patent were sold to E. Remington and Sons (see Typewriter). Glidden was born in Scioto, Ohio.
