Hawkes Bay is a province on the eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island. The province is the North Island's chief sheep-farming area. In addition, Hawkes Bay and the Northland district make up the island's chief fruit-growing area. Market gardens in Hawkes Bay produce vegetables for canning factories in Hastings, the province's second largest city.
