Geikie, GEE kih, Sir Archibald (1835-1924), was a Scottish geologist. He traveled in both Europe and North America, doing field work on glacial and ancient volcanic deposits. In 1855, he joined the Geological Survey of the United Kingdom. He became director-general of the Survey and its Museum of Practical Geology in 1881. His works include A Textbook of Geology (1882) and The Founders of Geology (1897). Geikie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and received most of his scientific education from tutors.
