Gair, Vincent (1902-1980), was parliamentary leader of the Democratic Labor Party in Australia from 1965 to 1973. He was a senator for Queensland from 1965 to 1974 and served as Australian ambassador to Ireland from 1974 to 1976. Vincent Clair Gair was born and educated in Rockhampton, Queensland, where he became a railroad telegraph clerk in 1916. He was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in 1932. He was deputy premier of Queensland from 1947 to 1952 and premier from 1952 to 1957.
