Fort Lee, Virginia, is the home of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command, the Army Quartermaster Center and School, and the Army Logistics Management College. It lies 3 miles (5 kilometers) east of Petersburg, and covers about 5,600 acres (2,300 hectares). The post was founded in 1917 and named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee. After World War I (1914-1918), it served as a wildlife sanctuary until it reopened during World War II (1939-1945). It became a permanent fort in 1950.
