Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is the home of airborne combat units of the United States Army, and the Army's Special Operations Command. It also houses the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, which trains troops in psychological and guerrilla warfare. The post lies 9 miles (14 kilometers) northwest of Fayetteville, and it occupies about 161,000 acres (65,000 hectares). It was founded in 1918, and named for Braxton Bragg, a Confederate Army general in the Civil War.
