Flat-coated retriever is a breed of medium-sized dog often used for hunting, flushing, and retrieving game from land and water. It is black or brown and has a long, strong head and a thick, flat-lying, glossy coat of medium length. It weighs from 60 to 75 pounds (27 to 34 kilograms) and stands from 22 to 24 inches (56 to 61 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. The flat-coated retriever is intelligent, playful, and good-natured. It makes an active, affectionate house pet.
