Elliott, Herb (1938-...), an Australian runner, set a world record by running a mile in less than 4 minutes 17 times. In 1958, he set a world record by running a mile in 3 minutes 54.5 seconds. Elliott won the 1,500-meter race at the Olympic Games in 1960 in a world record time of 3 minutes 35.6 seconds. He was unbeaten in the mile and 1,500-meter races over his entire career.
