Davenport, Lindsay (1976-...), an American tennis star, has been one of the dominant players on the women's tour since she turned professional in 1993. She has won three grand slam singles titles. The grand slam consists of the United States Open, the French Open, the Australian Open, and the All England (Wimbledon) Championship. Davenport won the women's singles titles at the U.S. Open in 1998, Wimbledon in 1999, and the Australian Open in 2000. In addition, she won the gold medal in women's singles competition in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Davenport is also an outstanding doubles player. She ended the 2001 season as the world's highest-ranked woman tennis player.
