Das Gupta, Ashin (1922-1998), was an Indian historian who wrote primarily about maritime trade in Asia in the 1600's and 1700's. Das Gupta wrote the histories with great attention to narrative in an attempt to make serious historical writing accessible to nonspecialist readers.
