Crump, Barry (1935-1996), a New Zealand writer, became a best-selling author with his first book, A Good Keen Man (1960). The stories in the book were based on Crump's experiences as a professional deer hunter from 1951 to 1956. His experiences as a professional crocodile hunter in Queensland, Australia, in 1964 and 1965 inspired the book Gulf (1964).
