Creaghe, Caroline (1860-1944), participated in an exploration of territory at the base of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia, in 1883. Creaghe was probably the first white woman to visit this territory. She accompanied her first husband, Captain Harry Creaghe, and the explorer Ernest Favenc on the six-month expedition. They faced great hardships, including food and water shortages, exhausting heat, and hostile Aborigines. Creaghe kept a diary of her experiences, parts of which were published in 1976.
