Coalition, koh uh LIHSH uhn, is a combination of political interest groups working toward a mutual goal. Coalitions often form in countries with parliamentary forms of government because these systems have a number of political parties. A single party may be unable to win a majority in the parliament, causing various parties to form coalitions that have a majority of seats.
