Clackmannanshire (pop. 48,077) is a local government area in Scotland. In 1996, it became a unitary authority, a governmental unit responsible for all local government services within its boundaries. Clackmannanshire encompasses the boundaries of the old Scottish county of Clackmannanshire, which was once the smallest county in the United Kingdom. In 1975, the county came under the administration of Clackmannan District Council following local government reorganization.
